A legacy woven in the world’s finest fibers, a journey across time and tradition – Loro Piana marks its 100-year anniversary with a landmark exhibition, “If You Know, You Know. Loro Piana’s Quest for Excellence.” Set to take place from March 22 to May 5, 2025, at the Museum of Art Pudong (MAP) in Shanghai, this immersive showcase unveils the story of the Maison’s pursuit of perfection, craftsmanship, and heritage like never before.

A Tribute to Craftsmanship and Innovation

In a groundbreaking moment, Loro Piana becomes the first luxury house to exhibit at MAP Shanghai, an institution renowned for curating world-class art and culture. Designed by esteemed exhibition-maker Judith Clark, this meticulously crafted retrospective invites visitors to step into the brand’s intimate world, exploring its unique savoir-faire, iconic fibers, and six-generation legacy through a sensorial and tactile lens.

Spanning 1,000 square meters, the exhibition blends archival treasures with modern artistic interpretations. Expect to see a compelling curation of contemporary and historic artworks, including pieces from the Sergio and Luisa Loro Piana Collection, featuring Lucio Fontana, Alberto Burri, Enrico Castellani, and Emilio Vedova. Further enriching the dialogue between heritage and artistry, heirloom fabrics, exquisite crafts, and specially created silhouettes illustrate the intrinsic connection between material, craftsmanship, and landscape.

An Immersive Artistic Experience

More than just a retrospective, this exhibition is a multi-sensory journey. At its core, a dedicated laboratory space highlights Loro Piana’s unmatched commitment to the finest raw materials in the world—cashmere from Inner Mongolia, merino wool from New Zealand, vicuña from the Andes, and beyond. Visitors will witness the meticulous precision of fiber selection and quality control, reaffirming the Maison’s position as a global leader in textile innovation.

The exhibition’s visual storytelling is accompanied by a bespoke soundscape, created through a collaboration between Chinese artistic director Guo Wenjing, composer Liu Hao, and musicians Tang Junqiao and Tim Zhang. This immersive room bridges Italian and Chinese traditions, seamlessly weaving two cultures together in an auditory masterpiece.

Adding to the contemporary dialogue, Chinese artist Qiu Zhijie presents an intricate ink-on-paper map, reimagining the global influence of Sinology and tracing the interwoven narratives of Loro Piana’s international presence.

A Celebration of Timeless Elegance

One of the exhibition’s highlights is the presentation of 33 exclusive ensembles, crafted specifically for the event. Each piece stands as a testament to the Maison’s design ethos—where tradition meets innovation, and where materials sourced from the most remote landscapes are transformed into objects of exquisite beauty. These garments interact with the surrounding space, mirroring the landscapes that inspired them, from the rolling dunes of Mongolia to the verdant fields of New Zealand.

Mark your calendars for this extraordinary exhibition.
