How To Make The TikTok Trending “Sleepy Girl Mocktail”

Did you know you may not be getting enough sleep? According to Breaking Travel News, 40% of UAE residents lack quality sleep. From melatonin gummies to various sleeping methods, it’s a given that most of us are searching for the next quick fix to lull us off into slumberland.

The “Sleepy Girl Mocktail” was invented by Board Certified HHP, Calee Shea Sciotto in January 2023. It would later resurface on TikTok after it was posted by Wellness content creator, Gracie Norton. The video garnered more than 1.5 million views, with thousands of people claiming the mocktail helped them achieve the best sleep of their lives. But does it really work?

In an interview with Marie-Pierre St-Onge — an associate professor of nutritional medicine at Columbia University — conducted by health reporter, Dani Blum for The New York Times, Maire-Pierre shares “tart cherries are fairly rich in melatonin, which, in theory, might mean they can induce sleep,” she continued saying “but they contain only a small fraction of the amount of melatonin gummies sold to help people sleep.” To sum it up, it has not yet been proven whether or not mocktails that contain magnesium powder work.

In another helpful statement made by Dr. Pieter Cohen — an associate professor at Harvard Medical School who studies supplements — in the same article states, “It’s entirely magical thinking. If you start taking anything and you start believing that it allows you to go to sleep — that belief is really powerful,” Dr. Cohen said.

With a slight fear of sounding like a rambling food blogger, who you just wished would get to the point, here is how you can make the TikTok trending “Sleepy Girl Mocktail”:

What You’ll Need…

1. 1 tsp of Berry Magnesi-om

2. 2 oz tart cherry juice

3. 10 oz sparkling water

4. A cherry (Optional)

First, combine ice, cherry juice, and magnesium powder in a glass of your choice. Mix the concoction well before completing the last step: adding sparkling water, a bubbly prebiotic soda or a seltzer. To add to the vibes, add a cherry on top.
